What it is
The IBEX 35 brings together the 35 most traded companies on the Spanish stock exchange. Banks (Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank), Inditex and Iberdrola weigh heavily. Its make-up is reviewed twice a year and it is published in points and without dividends.
What moves it
Banks, and with them ECB interest rates, the Spanish economy and Latin America, where several of its companies do a lot of business. Being in euros, the euro/dollar does not affect it as it does US indices.

Does the IBEX 35 include dividends?
No: the index in points only tracks prices. The IBEX 35 with dividends does, and the gap over 10 years is large.
How often do the IBEX 35 companies change?
The Technical Advisory Committee reviews it in June and December and can make extraordinary changes.
Why has the IBEX 35 risen less than the S&P 500?
It has more banks, utilities and mature companies and hardly any technology, which is what has risen most in recent years.
